Who Scored the Most Goals in a One Season in Bundesliga?

Robert Lewandowski currently holds the Bundesliga record for most goals in a single season, netting 41 times in the 2020/21 campaign.

The current Barcelona striker was the leading talisman for German champions Bayern Munich, hitting 65 shots on target in 2586 minutes of league football.

RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva came second in the goal-scoring tally with 28 league goals whilst Erling Haaland finished third after scoring 27 goals for Borussia Dortmund.

After an incredible record-breaking season, many fans and pundits believed that the Polish striker would win the Ballon d’Or Award (best player in the world), however, Lewandowski received the Striker of the Year award instead while Argentina captain Lionel Messi collected the prestigious award instead for the 2021/22 season.

Muller netted 40 goals in 34 Bundesliga games, beating his own previous record set in 1970 of 38 goals in a single season.

Gerd Muller: 38 Goals in 33 Appearances – 1969/70

Before setting a new record in 1972, Gerd Muller netted 38 goals in 33 games during the 1969/70 campaign to set the record for the most goals in a single Bundesliga season.

Muller broke the record of former Borussia Dortmund forward Lothar Emmerich who held the title since 1966 with 31 goals in a single season.

Gerd Muller: 36 Goals in 33 Appearances – 1972/73

Although Gerd Muller’s 40-goal record was an unbelievable achievement, the striker nearly matched the same tally just a year later in the 1972/73 season.

Muller netted 36 goals in 33 Bundesliga games while also collecting seven assists. The striker would go on to score 66 goals in 49 games that campaign, helping Bayern Munich lift their third Bundesliga title as the club’s top scorer.
