Rich Wolfenden: A Day in the Life of a Football Commentator

Rich Wolfenden loves his football and he loves his music. Living the dream, he gets to combine his two passions every week as a reporter for BBC’s Final Score and a presenter on Radio X.

The Liverpool-born commentator often spends his Saturdays commentating on the Premier League and EFL before dashing across the North-West or London to host his brilliant Indie Night.

An Evertonian, Wolfenden admits he currently prefers listening to music to watching the match because ‘you don’t have to worry about The Strokes being relegated to The Championship!’

SQaF Untold caught up with Rich before he headed to Glastonbury for the first in our ‘Day in the Life’ series. Each month we will bring you fresh insights and stories from people working in football.

From missing matchday moments like Chris Kamara to facing angry Premier League managers after they’ve lost, Rich let us into a few football commentary secrets.

What’s more, we also asked the Radio X DJ to kick off our SQaF Untold Away Days playlist with five of his favourite football tracks which you can find on Spotify…
